Relay Technician (Southern NJ)

 

Performs the duties required in connection with the installation, operation and maintenance of all type of protective and auxiliary relays and associated equipment in switching stations, substations, generating stations, customer’s installations and field locations as the employee becomes qualified through acquired experience and training. Performs switching through 26kV in accordance with their assigned work. Pull and terminate control cable required for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and removal of all relays and associated relay equipment. Required: Ability to follow instructions and perform routine operations. Ability to read blueprints (schematics and wiring diagrams) and make simple field sketches and drawing mark-ups. Must have the ability to acquire sufficient knowledge of electronic circuits to perform work, as applied in relay protection and supervisory control. Must have the ability to complete Company courses in fundamentals of Electricity-Direct Current and Alternating Current, or the equivalent. Must have obtained an acceptable score on the Relay Technician pre-placement test. Fully qualified journeyman must provide proof of training records does not have to take the Relay Technician pre-placement test. High school graduate or equivalent. Valid NJ Driver's License.

INTERNAL CANDIDATES: Must have obtained an acceptable score on the Relay Technician pre-placement test, except for employees hired prior to May 1, 1983 who has or obtains a High School diploma or its equivalent, having taken courses in physics, and mathematics including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, does not have to complete the pre-placement test. Fully qualified journeyman must provide proof of training records does not have to take the Relay Technician pre-placement test. The successful applicant for this position has no right to return to his/her former position unless specifically provided by Union Contract.
